resolutions and vows

as we enter the first week of 2010, many of us may have been thinking about new year resolutions and have even penned down some of them, with good intentions to see them come to pass this year. personally, i haven’t fully gone into the specific details for different areas, but there are 2 things which i really hope to focus on this year: 1) greater devotion towards Him, putting Him as first in all, and 2) greater digging into God’s word, to study and feed on solid food. there would be more, but i hope to give proper thought before penning down some of them. the following verse was a verse that i was personally reminded of about 2 years back when God pointed out to me my folly about not carrying out some promises which i made to Him. it speaks to me about the importance of taking our words seriously, especially when these are being made towards God.

Ecclesiastes 5:4 “When you make a vow to God, do not delay in fulfilling it. He has no pleasure in fools; fulfill your vows.”

just as how we make certain vows and promises unto God through our resolutions, it is important that we give careful thoughts to our resolutions and follow through them because He does not delight in the number of vows we make, but rather in our faithfulness to see these being fulfilled. do not be hasty in our hearts to make certain promises and dreams for God, when we do not have the commitment to see through them. when we make our resolutions, it is not about the “feel-good” that comes with creating a list but rather it is an act of worship unto Him, something that is being offered unto God and should be taken seriously. and God takes us seriously and so should our resolutions that are made towards Him. yup, let’s not be rash fools in making our resolutions, but to think through and act upon them!
